Healing With Herbal Therapy
Chinese herbal medicine is a beautifully precise system in which herbal formulas are custom-tailored not only to fit particular diseases or symptoms, but also to fit each individual person’s particular pattern of disharmony. With this approach, the root of the problem gets addressed along with the symptoms or branches. Chinese herbs can be used in conjunction with acupuncture or can be taken on their own. The herbs are generally taken daily in the form of either teas or pills. The formulas are often fine-tuned to address changes in symptoms as the patient’s health evolves.
Herbal medicine is especially suited to chronic health issues, women’s health concerns, and conditions where the body requires nourishment. Although we refer to it as Chinese “herbal” medicine, in fact the array of thousands of medicinals used includes a number of animal and mineral substances, in addition to the majority of plant-based substances.
Emily is one of a small handful of practitioners locally who maintains a full pharmacy of powdered herbs on site, with hundreds of individual herbs which she mixes into custom formulas. She also maintains a selection of herbs in pill and tincture form and has access to a pharmacy that stocks whole herbs. Emily discusses individually with each client whether herbs would be appropriate and helpful for their situation, and what form of herbs (powders, pills, etc.) would make the most sense for them in terms of cost, convenience and efficacy.
The herbs in Emily’s pharmacy are of a very high quality, being bought from the most reputable suppliers in the industry, with the highest standards. Herbs purchased from these suppliers have undergone testing for safety and identity, to be sure that the herbs do not contain heavy metals or pesticide residues, and to assure that the herb really is the plant or substance on the product label.
